Art has been a passion of mine ever since I was little. It has allowed me to properly express myself in ways I have been unable to do so in the past. As someone who has ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) in addition to generalized/social anxiety disorder, it can often be difficult to properly express or verbalize my inner emotions or thoughts.
My practice in recent years has truly given me a deeper understanding of both my own anxiety as well as the condition as a whole. I would encourage anyone to try out creating art about their own conditions, it can be surprising what ends up being revealed.
Creating sculptures has been something I have enjoyed and pursued for many years. Whilst only in recent years have I had the materials and skills to create larger pieces, I have been able to transfer many skills over from my work on smaller scales.
I find that creating three-dimensional artworks gives the pieces a greater physical presence and importance. By occupying a tangible space within a room and not being mounted upon a wall, viewers will be more aware of the piece. It's harder to ignore something that isn't sat on a wall after all. This notion is what brought my anxiety based artworks into 3D.
With a lot of my recent art, I have been focusing on using my practice to raise awareness and encourage thoughts about a variety of issues. These range from our toxic symbiotic relationship with nature, the pollution of the moon to mental health disorders like anxiety.
Art is something everyone can be involved in, as both creators and consumers.
Growing up, I always loved to watch cartoons and various anime shows. The art styles and bright colours fascinated me, and this fascination ultimately led to me teaching myself to draw in anime style.
Over the years I refined my own unique style and my love for anime has not faltered. I am merely grateful that I can now use my art to bring joy to others just like how the original media brought joy to me.
